August - September 2008 Services
August 3. Rev. Susanne Nazian’s sermon is entitled “NO ON 2.” Upper case letters means shouting, and I’m doing some. Amendment 2 is morally repugnant to me, and I’ll tell you why.
August 10. Rev. Susanne Nazian will speak on “Homosexuality and the Bible.” Part of my study leave will have been spent taking a course on Homosexuality and the Bible through the Pacific School of Religion. What’s the real truth of the scriptures? How might it have been different if we’d always understood the text?
August 17. Rev. Susanne Nazian will discuss “From Whence Comes Evil?” This is the one I’ve been mulling over for a while now. From World War II to Guantanamo, what psychological glitch allows human beings to visit cruelty on one another and still live what seems to be normal existences.
August 24. Rick McBride, Half-blood Cherokee, will speak on: Applied Prayer, Intentions, Sacred Sites and Quantum Mechanics.
Rick McBride, a mixed-blood Tsalagi (Cherokee), lectures and presents workshops on Native American Spirituality and Lifeways and has spoken at a number of UU Congregations in central and south Florida. His focus is on the Lifeways of the ancestors rather than political activism. The study of the Medicine Wheel, e.g. shows its true purpose of self-knowledge and reflection of Universal Laws. His topic touches on what the Elders have taught, what we have learned from our own experiences and what now is being discovered by Western Science.

Dr. Robert Tucker received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Christian Theology from the University of Chicago and his B.A. degree from Texas Christian in Fort Worth, Texas. Originally ordained in the Christian Church, he later transferred to the Unitarian Universalist Association and served congregations in Texas, South Dakota, Virginia and Florida.
