UU UNO
We invite you to become a member of the UU United Nations Office. Annual memberships are $50. You may also consider supporting our youth initiatives and making a contribution to our UU-UNO Scholarship Fund which allows youth and young adults to participate in seminars and other programs.

What does a membership contribution do? First, you will help us to advocate for U N peacekeeping missions to places like Darfur, to be equipped to do the job of ending violence and protecting civilians. You will add your voice to other UUs in protecting the human rights of everyone and help end oppression based on a person’s gender, color, religion, sexual orientation , sexual identity, age or physical handicap.

Right now renewed violence in the Congo is displacing women and children. The new violence has forced hundreds of Congolese to flee their homes. An estimated 1.3 million Congolese are displaced within the country. The displaced have reported that their homes have been destroyed, and in some cases, children cannot be found.

South County Food Pantry
Thanks to all who have contributed to the Food Pantry! The Pantry distributes food to needy families and individuals in Venice, Nokomis, Laurel and Osprey. Your donations are very appreciated, especially in these difficult economic times.

As you look at the weekly grocery ads, please keep in mind that the food pantry could use pasta (1 lb bag or boxes), spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables, canned fruit, fruit juices (large size – apple, grape, cranberry, etc), pork and beans, canned fish (tuna and salmon), canned spaghetti or ravioli, canned chili, canned beef or chicken stew, macaroni and cheese, canned tomato products, rice (1 lb bags), canned soup, cake mix, frosting, cereals (hot or cold), bar soap, toilet tissue, shampoo, dishwashing detergent. Perhaps you don’t need more than one of the "2 for the price of 1" specials this week!

Supporting the Food Pantry is an important part of UUCOV’s Social Action work.
Leave your donations in the box under the table in the back of the sanctuary and they will be taken to the Pantry located at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Or visit the Pantry yourself sometime (open from 9 to 12 Monday thru Friday).
